Where do I start? Do I unpack all the influences I hear? There are a lot: The Doors, Sabbath, The Beatles, Fates Warning, Rush, The Who, Rollins, Cooper, The Amboy Dukes, The Stones, Sleep, St. Vitus. The list is remarkable and nearly endless. They fade in and dissipate constantly, a gentle tide that leaves traces but never changes the stunning originality of the music.
Should I mention, instead, the power of the rhythm section? The drums come on you like a storm and leave you washed up on the beach, your head spinning, while the bass threatens to summon the Kraken from the deep to take you under.
Or the riffs? They're a sonic siren's call pulling you into the rocks, toying with you, and always leaving you wanting more. By the gods, the riffs...
Maybe instead I'll go with the lyrics and atmosphere? They both combine to be sometimes sparse and haunting, sometimes furious, and always transcendent. They are an ecosystem of shamanic wonder that ties all the above together seamlessly.
But then I could just say that this is the music I've been waiting to hear my entire life. Its powerful with epic rythmic hooks, yet blissful, yet again intricate, and always mind-expanding. They should be headlining stadiums.
